Executive Summary 

Malaysia, representing The Asia Pacific Region, won the hosting rights for the Tenth World Bonsai Convention 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, the tentative proposed dates are Friday 28 August – Monday 31 August 2026.

The proposed hosting venue is Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, where the prestigious event will be held at the 28,000 square feet PIAZZA and 53,000 square feet Exhibition Hall.

With the theme of ‘’Harmonising Nature with Life’’, we would like to invite the general public, along with bonsai enthusiasts worldwide, to get inspired by Bonsai, which is a piece of nature.

The Convention will be organized by the Malaysia Bonsai & Suiseki Society (MBSS), the national Bonsai Suiseki Society, with the physical and logistic work being carried out by the members of the Society, which has vast experience in conducting national and international events. MBSS was the host of the Asia Pacific Bonsai & Suiseki Convention and Exhibition (ASPAC) in 2001, which was a very successful event, bringing 400 delegates to the biennial regional gathering.

MBSS represents 19 clubs in Malaysia, which is the country's official bonsai and suiseki community. In a spirit of camaraderie, letters of support from major organizations are attached, along with similar letters from other sub-organizations within the country, as part of a concerted bid effort to bring this event to Malaysia.

This bid proposal outlines the reasons to bring the World Bonsai Convention to Kuala Lumpur, the value proposition, and the benefits for delegates. It will give an overview of the information of Kuala Lumpur as the host city and Malaysia's capabilities to host the 2026 World Bonsai Convention.

We have highlighted support from the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), a non-profit government agency established under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia to assist and support the organization of international events here.

As highlighted in this document, we will provide options for once-in-a-lifetime pre- and post-convention tour experiences for delegates to visit places of interest in the city.

The flight options outlined in this document, showing direct access to Kuala Lumpur from many cities, show how easy Kuala Lumpur is to access globally.

There are about 2,500 registered members of all bonsai clubs within Malaysia. For this convention, based on the statistics we have for conventions here over the past 30 years, we would aim for a local registration figure of about 300, and with your help, we would seek an international participation number above 700. Hence, we would aim for an estimated attendance of 1,000 pax registrants, and exhibition visitors of 50,000, spreading the positive vibes of bonsai to this part of the world.
